SALISBURY – The Duke University Talent Identification Program recognizes 21 Salisbury Academy students among some of the most academically talented students in the United States for their exceptional scores on national grade-level achievement test.
“It is rewarding to see our students rank nationally and we are proud that the Duke TIP program has become a Salisbury Academy tradition,” said Head of School Diane Fisher.
Duke TIP’s seventh grade talent search candidates are invited to take the ACT college entrance exam or the SAT reasoning test, which provides greater insight into their abilities. Seventh-grade students from Salisbury Academy who earned recognition are Maria Capito, Lizzie Fisher, Alyssa Kennedy, Anna Louise Lewis, Ivy Overcash, Drew Shelby, Garrett Shermer, Isabel Temple and Jacob Webb.
The fourth through sixth grade talent search allows participants to receive stimulating opportunities through online lessons, publications, contests, the Duke TIP Book Club and an optional above-level testing experience, the EXPLORE test. Once a student enrolls, the benefits continue through sixth grade. This year’s fourth through sixth grade qualifiers are: Wes Barringer, Emily Cipolla, Sam Combs, Maggie Dees, Will Fowler, Taron Lilly, Jude Lockhart, Quinn Lockhart, Emma Nianouris, Nikihil Roy, Phoebe Shields, and Chad van der Poel
Founded in 1980 through a grant from the Duke Endowment, the Duke University Talent Identification Program has become a major leader in identifying academically talented students and providing innovative programs to support the development of their optimal educational potential.
