Catawba College Assistant Professor of English Forrest Anderson is teaming up with other Southern writers to participate in “The Great Write Off” Oct. 3-5.
The Great Write Off fundraiser will support six non-profit organizations based in Michigan. According to its website (http://thegreatwriteoff.com/), donations of any amount can be made to support the participating writer(s). The event aims to encourage writers by showing them how much their work is valued.
Anderson’s “Cornbread and Collards” team will take part in this friendly fundraising competition between nonprofits to see who can raise the most money. “Cornbread and Collards” has a goal to raise $4,750 in support of the Fiction Writers Review, founded in 2008 “to create a venue for discussing books and writing that was serious but informal, supportive yet rigorous.”
Anderson’s fellow writers, according to the team page http://www.gifttool.com/athon/OurTeamPage?ID=2063&AID=2154&TID=13363, “are a group of Southern writers (by birth, affinity, relocation or fandom).” His team members include Ann Barnhill, Lee Thomas, Leslie Clements, Phil Sandick and Tom Bennick.

Anderson joined the English faculty at Catawba in 2010. He has a Ph.D. from Florida State University, where he worked for two years as an archivist and assistant for the Pulitzer-Prize winning author Robert Olen Butler.
SWAG book club
The Literary Bookpost and the Salisbury Writers and Artists Guild Inc. (SWAG) have launched their first book club, Reading Between the Wines. This is an opportunity for readers and local writers to meet, discuss the book club choices and share a glass of wine.
Author appearances, books talks and book signings for Reading Between the Wines are as follows:
• Maryann McFadden will discuss her book, “The Book Lover,” on Friday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m.
• Tamela Rich will discuss her book, “Live Full Throttle: Life Lessons from Friends Who Faced Cancer,” on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
• Marguerite Williams and Jon Guttman will discuss their political thriller, “Madame President,” on Monday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m.
