Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is launching a new hands-on plumbing certification course. The course covers basic installation and maintenance of plumbing systems and components. Within those components, the instructor will begin with safety and continue through a real-life look at blueprints, implementation of standard practices, installation and maintenance of piping, fittings, valves, appliances and fixtures used in the plumbing system.
“This is the first time we’ve been able to offer this kind of course, and we are lucky to have Michael Swaenepoel as an instructor,” said Jeanie Moore, vice president of advancement and continuing education at Rowan-Cabarrus.
Swaenepoel has more than 30 years of experience as a business owner throughout Florida and North Carolina, while maintaining his inspector certifications for mechanical, electrical, building and plumbing.
Upon completion, students will be able to install and maintain basic plumbing systems, components, appliances and fixtures through the appropriate use of plumbing tools and standard practices. With additional experience in the field, students could also be qualified to sit for the plumbing licensing exam.
The registration fee for the course is $175 plus $2.55 for insurance. The one-year course begins Oct. 16 and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. at the site of Mechanical Trades of the Carolinas in Concord.
