CHINA GROVE – A 21-year-old man accused of throwing items off an interstate overpass in August was charged Tuesday with two felony sex offenses.
Matthew Parham, of Old Linn Road, is accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl during the summer of 2011, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said.
He was taken into custody about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and charged with two counts of felony indecent liberties with children.
Detectives said a relative of the girl contacted authorities on Sept. 4 after they found a diary detailing the alleged incidents.
Parham and the teen knew each other prior to 2011, the report said.
The allegations came shortly after Parham was jailed in late August when authorities said he tossed trash cans and concrete blocks off several bridges onto Interstate 85.
Several motorists reported their cars were damaged as they drove through the southern part of Rowan County.
Parham was charged with seven counts of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
Deputies said he threw items from overpasses at Lentz, Pine Ridge and Daugherty roads on July 28, July 29 and Aug. 7.
