Salisbury man leads police of foot chase

SALISBURY – ?Authorities engaged in a short foot chase late Thursday night after a license plate number check didn’t quite check out.
Salisbury Police charged Bryson Oneil Goodlett, 31, of Parkland Drive, Salisbury, with resist, delay, obstruct an officer; assault on a law enforcement officer, injury to personal property and driving while impaired.
Officer D.R. Lancaster came across a 2004 Ford Explorer with a license plate number that indicated the driver had a revoked license. The officer stopped the vehicle shortly after 8 p.m.
The driver, later identified as Goodlett, ran from the car near Ellis and Council streets.
The officer shocked the man with a Taser while in pursuit, but it had no effect.
Goodlett ran behind a house at 511 W. Council St., said Capt. Shelia Lingle.
Goodlett tried to jump a chainlink fence behind the Council Street home, but the officer was able to grab him.
A scuffle ensued between Goodlett and the officer, who received some scrapes.
Other officers arrived to assist.
The officer also damaged the magazine from his gun in the scuffle.
Goodlett refused a breath analysis and was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center where blood was drawn.
His blood-alcohol content was sent for testing.
Goodlett has since been released under a $7,500 secured bond. His court date is slated for Nov. 2.
