Reception for Elaine Marshall, NC secretary of state, Saturday

SALISBURY – Elaine Marshall, North Carolina’s secretary of state, will be in Salisbury on Saturday for a reception in her honor at EastSquareArtWorks, 122 E. Innes St., from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
The Democratic Women of Rowan County and the Democratic Party of Rowan County are hosting the event, which is open to the public RSVP at 704-431-4933 is appreciated.
Marshall was elected secretary of state in 1996, the first woman elected to statewide executive office in North Carolina. She is seeking re-election this year, running against Republican challenger Ed Goodwin.
Marshall has been credited with making the Office of the Secretary of State more efficient and effective, overseeing its transition to the digital age with online reporting and filings.
