SALISBURY — The second rider injured in a collision involving a scooter this morning died in hospital, Salisbury Police said.

Two men were riding southeast on a moped , which had no lights, in the outside lane on Jake Alexander Boulevard about 4:45 a.m. when a Jeep Cherokee pulled out from Dan Street to go north on Jake Alexander. The SUV hit the moped, knocking it into the path of a northbound box truck.

The moped driver, James Dillon Logan, 18, of 701 Klumac Road, died at the scene. The other rider, Dillon R. Robertson, 19, of the same address, was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, where he later died.

The SUV was driven by Patricia Jones of Dan Street.

The truck driver, Enedino Caroso, 33, of Branch View Drive in Charlotte, was cited for not having a driver’s license.

Investigators are meeting with the district attorney to discuss whether other charges are warranted.
