KANNAPOLIS – On Saturday, Oct. 6, the Kannapolis Fire Department (KFD) will hold its Fifth Annual Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fire Station One, 300 Firehouse Drive in Kannapolis. This free event offers fun, games and safety information for all ages, including fire truck displays, a Legends race car, the Sun-Drop monster truck, Pizza Hut Smart Car and local mascots.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the Kannapolis Firefighters Assistance Foundation (KFAF). KFAF will also sponsor a silent auction from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Activities include a Sparky the Fire Dog-themed kid’s play area, “The Doghouse,” for arts and crafts, CPR training, blood pressure checks, photo opportunities, give-away items, door prizes, community information and much more.
Kannapolis Fire Explorers Post 1, a group of 14- to 20-year-olds with an interest in fire service, will be conducting repelling demonstrations out of the training tower throughout the day.
This year’s open house theme is “Be Rabbit Ready – Have 2 Ways Out.” KFD’s three shifts of firefighters will be creating safety activities around this theme and attendees will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite activity. The winning shift in this friendly competition will receive free lunch and other incentives.
The Open House is part of KFD’s celebration of National Fire Prevention Week. For more information about National Fire Prevention Week and the Open House, contact Maria Bostian, KFD Fire and Life Safety Educator, at 704-920-4282.
