SALISBURY – A Salisbury man was discharged this morning after he was badly beaten by his girlfriend’s son, authorities said.
David Jamal Lingard, 31, of North Long Street, was charged with assault inflicting serious injury after an early morning incident on North Ellis Street.
Lingard is accused of repeatedly punching Larry Edward Fletcher, 57, arrest reports said.
Salisbury Police said Lingard went to the home earlier that day and was there when his mother, Shirelle Lingard, went to bed.
She told authorities she heard a knock on her bedroom door about 2 a.m., but when she opened it she saw her son standing over Fletcher who was lying on the living room floor.
Police said they don’t know what led to the assault.
The 57-year-old appeared incoherent when officers arrived, the report said, and both eyes were swollen shut.
Fletcher was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center and was initially listed in serious condition, police said.
He was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
A spokeswoman at the Winston-Salem hospital said Fletcher was discharged Wednesday morning.
David Lingard remained in jail Wednesday under a $12,300 bond.
Police said two outstanding warrants for trespassing and breaking and entering were also served on Lingard during the arrest.
