BOONE (AP) — Investigators think an Appalachian State University student slipped at the edge of a creek, hit his head on rocks and fell into the water and drowned.
An autopsy on the death of Tyler Blalock, 19, of Charlotte classifies the death as an accidental drowning.
School officials said the autopsy results are consistent with a campus police investigation.
Blalock’s body was found in a creek that flows through a park in Boone on Saturday morning. The park is across from the university’s Holmes Convocation Center, which accommodates conventions, trade shows, concerts and athletic events.
Blalock was a sophomore studying sustainable development.
