Amber alert issued for 12-year-old NC girl

RALEIGH (AP) — North Carolina has issued an Amber Alert for a 12-year-old girl missing from Carteret County.
The sheriff’s office says Abigale Faith Lefevers was last seen about 10 p.m. Sunday at her home near Newport.
Her father told deputies she was missing when he woke up around 6:30 a.m. Monday.
Deputies think she is with a registered sex offender, 38-year-old Timothy Howard Newman. Investigators say she had been communicating with Newman in recent weeks.
They are thought to be in a red 1998 Chrysler Sebring with a North Carolina license tag AKT6534. The vehicle was last seen on U.S. 17 near the North Carolina-South Carolina state line around 2 a.m. Monday.
Officials say Newman was last seen around 10 p.m. Sunday. Newman did not report for work on Monday.
Abigale is a white female, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing 90 pounds. She has brown hair and eyes. She was last seen wearing black Nike shoes carrying a pink backpack with peace signs.
Newman is a white man, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing 210 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes.
