Two sustain life-threatening injuries in Kannapolis shootings

KANNAPOLIS — Two people are in the hospital with life-threatening injuries following shooting incidents in Kannapolis early this morning.
The Kannapolis Police Department responded to a shooting at 707 Leazer St. at 2:25 a.m. Upon arrival officers found a woman had been shot.
She was ttaken to Carolinas Medical Center Northeast In Concord, where she is currently undergoing surgery.
A suspect was identified and officers immediately began searching for him.
A short while later, they found the man at at 1523 N. Main St. An altercation occurred and the suspect was shot by one of the officers on the scene.
He was immediately transported to CMC Northeast with life threatening injuries. No further word on his condition at this time.
The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. No officers were hurt during the incident.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is normal procedure. The State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to conduct the investigation as with all officer involved shootings.
Police are looking for two motorists who were near the scene of the shooting on North Main Street. They are requesting that they contact the Kannapolis Police Department so police can speak to them.
