Two shot in Kannapolis early Sunday morning

KANNAPOLIS – Two people are in the hospital with life-threatening injuries following shooting incidents in Kannapolis early Sunday morning.
The Kannapolis Police Department responded to a shooting at 707 Leazer St. at 2:25 a.m. Upon arrival officers found a woman had been shot.
She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Northeast In Concord, where she underwent surgery.
After a suspect was identified, officers began searching for him.
An altercation occurred when they found the man at 1523 N. Main St. The suspect was shot by one of the officers on the scene.
He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with life threatening injuries.
No officers were hurt during the incident.
Kannapolis Police Chief Woody Chavis would not release the names of the victims to a Post reporter Sunday.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is normal procedure. The State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to conduct the investigation as with all officer involved shootings.
Chavis told the Post no one has been charged in the incidents.
Police are looking for two motorists who were near the scene of the shooting on North Main Street. They are requesting that they contact the Kannapolis Police Department so police can speak to them.
