Atotal of 230 people gathered near the F&M Bank Trolley Barn in downtown Salisbury Sept. 14 for the Center for the Environment’s first “Sundown on Easy Street” celebration.
A farm-fresh dinner and local entertainment set the stage for the center’s fund-raising event. Guests enjoyed music from two bands with local roots – No9 Coal, a bluegrass, rock and jazz band, and Eric & the DiMarzios, an alternative folk group.
Proceeds from the event will support the Center for the Environment’s sustainability efforts in the local community.
“It was a great celebration with new and longtime friends of the Center,” says John Wear, the Center’s executive director. “I think we all felt a distinct sense of community there on the recently resurrected Easy Street. It gave everyone an opportunity to have a good time for a great cause.”
Gold Sponsors included F&M Bank and Freirich Foods, along with Susan Cloninger and Rowan Regional Medical Center. Venue Sponsors were F&M Bank, KKA Architecture and Summit Developers Inc. Refreshment sponsors included United Beverages, Dover Vineyards, Eco Products and Cheerwine.
Elizabeth Anderson, Carmony Hartwig, Joyce Goodwin, Susan Cloninger and Carolyn Peck served on the event committee.

The Center for the Environment at Catawba College was founded in 1996 to provide education and outreach on prevalent environmental challenges and to foster community-oriented sustainable solutions that can serve as models for programs throughout the country.
