SALISBURY – The Department of Veterans affairs has named a top veterans’ health care executive from Texas as the next director of the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center.
Kaye Green will start as head of the Salisbury veterans’ hospital on Oct. 22, and she said Friday that she’s thrilled to be coming here.
“It’s certainly a growing veteran population, and I think there’s a lot of opportunity there to continue to expand the services that the facility provides to veterans in that area,” Green said. “I’m really looking forward to getting active in the community and to just take Salisbury to the next level.”
Since May, Green has been working as interim director of the El Paso VA Health Care System in Texas.
She has served in a variety of leadership positions, including her most recent permanent post as associate director of the New Mexico VA Health Care System in Albuquerque, N.M., and prior positions as an associate director of the VA Healthcare System in Bay Pines, Fla., and as a health systems specialist in Veterans Integrated Service Network Eight.
Green will oversee delivery of health care to more than 82,000 veterans living in the 24-county Central Piedmont Region of North Carolina, and an operating budget of $359.4 million, a VA press release said.
“We are excited to bring Ms. Green on board as the new medical center director in Salisbury,” Daniel F. Hoffmann, Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network director, said in the Friday press release. “The leadership qualities and experience she demonstrated at other VA facilities will yield hefty returns for Medical Center employees, volunteers, and most importantly, the veterans we are privileged to serve. I am confident that under her leadership, the medical center will flourish.”
Anthony Dawson has been serving as interim director of the Salisbury VA hospital since the previous director, Paul Russo, left in May.
“I think it’s a great facility, and there’s a lot we can do to make sure we’re providing the best care and services to veterans there,” Green said. “I’m really interested in mental health care and in the recovery models that really do help people fully integrate back into society and make people whole again.”
Green holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Wayland Baptist University, with specialization in health care administration. She is a graduate of the inaugural class of VHA’s Executive Career Field Candidate Development Program, Health Care Leadership Institute and Leadership VA. She is also a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
She said she plans on moving to Salisbury soon with her husband of 19 years, David, and their nearly 3-year-old son, Noah.
