Two senior softball teams from Rowan County brought home medals recently from the North Carolina Senior Games State Finals.
The Comfort Keepers of Salisbury men’s 65-plus team won gold, and the Rowan Regional Roadrunners women’s 55-plus team won silver.
The tournament was held Sept. 10-12 at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh. Both teams qualified at the annual 2012 Salisbury/Rowan Senior Games this past spring.
Salisbury/Rowan Senior Games is part of a statewide network of 53 local programs sanctioned by North Carolina Senior Games.
This starts two months of travel for the 2012 State Finals. The next competition is at N.C. State for individual sports and SilverArts, then onto Tanglewood for Golf and Clayton for bocce. The Senior Games State Finals will end at East Carolina University with a three-day, three-on-three basketball tournament.
Qualification for next year’s State Finals will be held in the spring of 2013 throughout Rowan County. It will mark the 30th year of the Salisbury/Rowan Senior Games & SilverArts program.
