SALISBURY – A 9-year-old boy is expected to be charged after police said he attacked a 14-year-old with a string trimmer Thursday.
According to a Salisbury Police report, the child had been throwing rocks at the 14-year-old girl and some friends as they went to a neighbor’s house on Oakhurst Drive near Harrison Road.
But on the way back, authorities said, the boy approached the girl with a running string trimmer and hit her with the spinning end. The 14-year-old had “several welts on her stomach,” the report said. Authorities were called when the girl told a parent what happened.
Police have spoken to juvenile services and a juvenile referral for assault is expected. A juvenile referral sets a court date for the child to appear before juvenile services.
