On Saturday at 1p.m, the Concerned Citizens of North Cooleemee (CCONC) will host the uncovering of the first and only Julius Rosenwald Plaque in Davie County.
The Rosenwald School Building Program is known as the most influential philanthropic force that came to the aid of African Americans during the segregation of public schools.
The Davie County Board of Education has donated a portion of land on Hickory Street to honor the placement of this marker. The CCONC is inviting all citizens to join the celebration and witness this event. The ceremony will be held in conjunction with the annual North Cooleemee Community Day Festival.
For more information, contact Barry Melton, CCONC president, at 336-406-2352 or Warren Fleming (consultant) at 336-284-2144.
