Catawba’s volleyball team topped Lenoir-Rhyne topped Lenoir-Rhyne 26-24, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-19 in a SAC match.Local golf
Seventy-four GARS members played at Warrior on Monday.
Low ‘A’ Flight winner was Boyce Caudle with a net of 62.09. Cauble shot 8-under his age. His round included a hole-in-one on No. 3.
Low ‘B’ Flight winner was David lee with a net of 59.13.
Low ‘C’ Fight winner with a net of 62.82 was John Cress.
Low ‘D’ Flight winner with a net of 59.51 was Art Hattaway.
Prep volleyball
South Rowan won 18-25, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-19 against West Davidson on Monday.
Lynsey Corriher had 13 kills for the Raiders. Tiffany Brooks had nine kills. Avery Locklear contributed seven kills, while Emma Pope had five and Lauren Register had four.
Corriher and Brooks had two blocks each. Pope had 27 assists.
Pope served six aces and led in service points with 16. Kari Joyce served five aces.
Brooks (15), Pope (14), Carolina Hubbard (10) and Mackenzie Reid (nine) led in digs.
• The Cabarrus Stallions lost 3-1 to Carolina Christian.
Emily Messisco had 17 digs for the Stallions.
Anna Messisco, Emily Messisco, Jessica Chapman and Karley Long had four kills each.
Kendyl Parker had three blocks. Brandy Parker had 12 assists. Alyana Long served for nine points, and Ariel Hendren served three aces.
Parks and Rec
Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department held the local NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Sunday at Catawba.
Local winners were Tripp McMillen, Jesse Boone, Charlie Klingler, Reginald Oglesby, Marshall Long and Mia McMillen.
They’ll advance to sectional competition to be held on Oct. 27 at Charlotte’s Memorial Stadium with a chance to advance and compete at a Carolina Panthers football game.
Middle school soccer
Salisbury Academy scored two goals in the first 30 seconds and four in the first two minutes of action and beat St. John’s 8-2.
Andreas Kalogeromitros had three goals and an assist. Carter Cook also had a hat trick and added an assist.
Marcus Corry and Matthew Pickens scored a goal each. It was the first of his career for Pickens.
Steven Anderson and Mike Hughes led a stout defense for the Jaguars (4-1).
