LANDIS – The town, the North Carolina Railroad Company and the N.C. Department of Transportation will host a meeting today for business owners to address their concerns about plans to add a second track between Salisbury and Kannapolis.
The informal meeting will be held at 3 p.m. at town hall, 312 S. Main St. The meeting is primarily for business owners, but is open to the public.
The project is part of a plan to increase rail speeds, capacity and improve safety along the corridor between Raleigh and Charlotte.
Town Manager Reed Linn said the meeting will provide an opportunity for business owners to have input and ask questions about the possible traffic pattern changes.
Those possible changes include areas along North and South Central avenues, East and West Ryder streets and North and South Main streets.
A week ago, transportation representatives met with local officials at the Salisbury Train Station.
The rail project plan includes adding a second set of tracks along a 10-mile route between Salisbury and Kannapolis.
The state will straighten curves, improve the signal system and switches between tracks and build bridges to separate train and vehicle traffic.
