Rowan Rescue Squad deserves our support
The family of Nick Bare and Kendall Brown would like to thank the Rowan County Rescue Squad for responding to the truck accident involving Nick and Kendall on May 4, 2012, in eastern Rowan County. Our families observed firsthand on the scene what the Rescue Squad did working to free our children from the vehicle. The Rescue Squad is able to respond to wrecks like our children were involved in because our community members and the local United Way of Rowan County support the Rescue Squad and its members. When you donate to the United Way, you’re essentially helping to support the operations of the Rowan County Rescue Squad. Our families are proud that we have men and women of the Rescue Squad willing to give their time to serve the citizens of Rowan County in their time of need. The Rowan County Rescue Squad is a proud member of the Rowan County United Way.

Back-to-school success
The 2012 Back To School event Sept. 8 at Walmart, sponsored by the Juneteenth Committee, brought out more than 200 school children, ranging in age from 5 to 17 years old. Larry Suber from Charlotte led the opening prayer. Robert Cooper, Alpha and Omega Ministries, was master of ceremonies for the day, with various games and activities. DJ KC Connor and DJ Slick provided music.
This was the last official event under my leadership, but I will assist different organizations.
Special thanks were given to the Walmart store and staff for allowing the committee to hold the event there. Thanks also to First Legacy Federal Community Credit Union and staff for assembling the school supply bags at their offices. Coca-Cola provided T-shirts and drinks for the students.
Marvin Shaw of Gamewell Mechanical donated book bags and put on a classic car show.
Ben and Gloria Thompson and Carla Rankin worked at the distribution table, and Diane Sanders and Jackie Campbell handled registrations.
The event was filled with talent from the Salisbury Drill Team and Kuijmani, LLC, Community Mass Praise Dance Ministry and local students.
Other special vendors: Coca-Cola, Sundrop, Sara Lee, Domino’s Pizza, Little Debbie, Krispy Kreme, Chick-Fil-A, Savage Meats Highway 29, Cheerwine, Pepperidge Farms, Nabisco and Flowers Bakery.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and R.A. Anderson’s Explorers provided help on the grounds where needed.
Thanks to all that supported the event. It makes the committee feel good to know that 200 of this area’s school kids went to school Monday with supplies.
Enterprise Rent-a-Car was a sponsor and provided vehicles.
Pictures were taken and donated by Kyle Carr of Fairview Baptist Church.

A great program
I was deeply moved by the wonderful “Rally Day” program for the Sunday School presented by a terrific group of children, teachers and ministers at First Presbyterian Church in Salisbury on Sunday, Aug. 26. I know for sure our church will always be in great shape to face any problems because of the devotion of these great disciples of First Presbyterian Church and our blessed Lord.
I commend the whole group for a job well done, which required a great deal of planning and work – but most of all, the incredible ability displayed by Dr. Jim Dunkin, who is able to motivate these wonderful disciples. I do think Banks Fisher should pack his bags for the seminary! God bless all these fine disciples.
