CHAPEL HILL (AP) — A longtime University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill fundraiser has resigned amid questions about his travel expenses.
Chancellor Holden Thorp said in a statement late Monday that he had accepted the resignation of Matt Kupec, the vice chancellor for advancement and a 20-year university employee.
Thorp said “questions have been raised related to Kupec’s travel expenses” and that an internal investigation has been launched. He said the university has begun reviewing all travel-related expenses and may turn to a third-party auditor to review them. Appropriate action will be taken if violations occurred.
The chancellor called Monday a “difficult day,” noting that Kupec helped raise “billions of dollars for the University.” But the statement went on to say “these are serious issues that require a thorough investigation.”
A call to a phone listing for Kupec said the number was disconnected.
