Area sports briefs: Salisbury, West jayvees win

Salisbury’s jayvee football team got 100-yard rushing games from A.J. Hill, Willie Clark and Daeshaude White in a 54-20 win against South Rowan at Ludwig Stadium on Thursday.
Hill scored on runs of 72 and 31 yards and added a two-point conversion. Clark had scoring dashes of 77 and 64 yards. White had a 47-yard scoring run. Riley Myers, Antwon Glenn and Harrison Smith also found the end zone for Salisbury.
D.J. Alexander picked off a pass for the Hornets, and Darius Jackson recovered a fumble.
South trailed 27-14 at halftime.
• West Rowan’s jayvees topped North Rowan 24-6 on Thursday.
Shakir Simmons caught a touchdown pass. Kreshon Alexander and Kacey Otto scored on the ground.
Dearius Phillips, Noah Williams and Kevin Gaillard led the Falcons’ defense.Prep tennisDavie’s girls tennis team defeated South Rowan 9-0 on Thursday.
Nadia Gregory, Allie Billings, Jennifer Webster,, Ashley Dowell, Leah Gryder and Tatum Edwards won in singles for the War Eagles.
Billings-Webster, Paige Myers-Jordain Taylor and Sarah Forst-Hannah Bell were the winning doubles teams.
• East Rowan’s girls tennis team beat Statesville 9-0 for an NPC win on Wednesday.
Singles winners for the Mustangs (5-1) were Lizzie Weaver, Rebecca Agner, Laura Agner, Hannah Pressley, Lauren Thomas and Drew Pethel.
Weaver-Rebecca Agner, Laura Agner-Pressley and Thomas-Pethel were the winning doubles pairings.Women’s soccerCatawba’s women’s soccer team beat Coker 4-0 in Hartsville, S.C., on Thursday.
Catawba (1-2) got goals from Mary Kirkman, Juliana Conte, Amy Iwanicki and Karen Presnell (Salisbury).
Catawba hosts Barton on Saturday.Minor leaguesDaniel Wagner (South Rowan) collected two runs and two hits and stole a base as Winston-Salem beat Myrtle Beach 5-3 on Thursday to even their Carolina League playoff series. Wagner is batting .667 in the series.
• Corey Seager (NW Cabarrus) hit his eighth homer for Ogden on Thursday.Youth racingSaturday is a promotional day at the local North Carolina Quarter Midget Association track on Peach Orchard Road.
Aspiring racers from ages 5-16 can take 10 laps for $10 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The day’s activities will also include food, prizes, 50/50 drawing and a car show.
Registration for the car show is from 9-10 a.m. The show is from 10-12, with judging at noon and awards at 1 p.m.
