North Hills Christian School adds academic programs

North Hills Christian School (NHCS) continues to make steps towards classical Christian schooling. Latin and formal logic were added over the past few years as part of this transition, and this year’s academic program will include a highly academic, chronologically-based history curriculum for grades one through four. The same chronology will be introduced next year in grades five through eight. The schools is beginning to offer this cycle with fifth-graders this year; the full cycle will be implemented in grades six through eight in 2013. The school has also revised its literature program to include richer, more rigorous, and time-tested content that aligns with the freshly implemented chronological study of history.
In addition, tiered instruction for students in the elementary school will be implemented for reading and math. Students will be divided into several groups according to their ability level rather than grade level so that teachers can tailor their instruction to meet the child’s needs, improve their readiness and build a strong foundation for learning.
The public is invited to learn more about classical Christian schooling and tiered instruction at North Hills. Matt Mitchell, head of school, will present details about the two new programs at 5:30 and 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Helen Kelley Smith Gymnasium.
Information about the programs is available on the school’s website.
Those who plan to attend the presentation are encouraged to review the information prior to Tuesday.
