First Baptist Church of Salisbury has announced its schedule for the Fall semester of LIFE Support classes to be held at the church, 223 N. Fulton St., and at the First Ministry Center across the street from the church. Classes are Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 5 and Sept. 10. Below is a list of offerings, along with cost and location:
DivorceCare
Most people will tell you that separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they’ve ever faced. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before. You don’t have to go through it alone. This is a biblically-based, Christ-centered recovery program. It is a special weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. You can face challenges and move toward rebuilding your life after separate or divorce. Facilitators: Wayne & Anganetta Dover; Wednesdays in the church parlor; $15 for workbook; 6-7:30 p.m.
DivorceCare 4 Kids (DC4K)
Help your children heal from the hurt of divorce. DC4K provides a safe, fun place where your children will learn to understand their feelings, express their emotions appropriately, feel better about themselves, and develop coping skills. A biblically based, Christ-centered ministry designed to bring healing to children ages 5-12 who are struggling with the hurt and pain of divorce and separation. Facilitators: Anna Holman, Judy Cooper; Wednesdays in room 306, $15 for workbook; 6-7:30 p.m.
Single & Parenting
Every day you work to meet the emotional and physical needs of your children, often at the expense of your own. You strive to be a good parent, but the struggle to do everything by yourself makes it seem impossible. At a Single & Parenting group, you’ll participate in video seminars that explain how to: Wisely encourage your kids to obey; Help your hurting child; Eliminate debt; Deal with verbal onslaughts; Figure out what your emotions are telling you. Plus, you’ll develop meaningful friendships with other single parents, who, like you, are tired of hectic mornings and chaotic evenings, the kids fighting, and a never-ending to-do list. Facilitator: Ginger Parker; Wednesdays in room 216; $15; 6-7:30 p.m.
Hurts, Habits & Hang-Ups: Celebrate Recovery
Our society is becoming more and more complex. Kids now have three sets of grandparents. Addiction for men and women is growing at an exponential rate. Celebrate Recovery was designed as a program to help those struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through a recovery process. Our churches and communities are filled with people who are struggling with pain, shame and addictions. Facilitators: Brian Nix, Nancy Alexander, Mary Alice Willis; Mondays at the FMC; $10.
Discovering Hope: Overcoming Depression
The number of people seeking medical treatment for depression has doubled in the last decade. This is an epidemic that medicine alone will not cure because it affects the body, soul and spirit. You will learn where the feelings of depression begin and that God has a plan — one that will help you overcome and find happiness, hope and freedom in Christ. Facilitator: Susan Shores; Mondays at the FMC; $9.
Healing Your Heart: Spiritual Divorce
We can all remember having our hearts broken. Maybe it was the loss of a relationship, the loss of a job, a home, a marriage… the list could continue. Could there be a “gift” or a life lesson if you were willing to look at the loss in a different way? The answer is YES…through the principles of the work in Spiritual Divorce you will be given the tools to look at any loss through new eyes and find some gifts. Healing Your Heart will help you see that there is a gift in any loss if you are willing to do the work. Don’t continue to carry the burden of those losses that have impacted your life. It is time that you allowed yourself the gift of Healing Your Heart…you deserve it. Facilitator: Angela Lambert-Gobble; Mondays at the FMC; $10.
