CHINA GROVE — Organizers of the Salisbury-Rowan CROP Hunger Walk are looking for interested participants to attend an informational meeting this Thursday.
CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty, an event sponsored by local churches. This year’s walk will be Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
The walk occurs each year on the second Sunday in October. The meeting this week is so that those who would like to take part can learn more about the event and gather supplies.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. inside the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 110 W. Church Street, China Grove.
There will be pizza and informational materials available at the Thursday meeting.
This year the walk will take place in two locations — First United Methodist Church and City Park in Salisbury.
“We finally have two routes again,” said event organizer Nancy Yates.
There has only been one walk location for the past few years, Yates said, but organizers are excited to bring back two sites.
Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from the walk stays in Rowan County. The money raised benefits Main Street Mission in China Grove and Rowan Helping Ministries.
CROP Hunger Walk provides national and global relief through water projects and harvesting projects.
