Downtown Salisbury hosts Kids’ Night Out Friday from 5-9 p.m., rain or shine. The many kids’ activities include face painting, inflatables, Wacky Doo the Clown, trolley rides, downtown ghost walk at 8 p.m., drumming on easy street at 7:30 p.m., Hay You the Clown, live music by The Fabulous Kays, classic cars on N. Main St., the Symphony’s Musical Petting Zoo, United Way campaign kick-off, soap box derby, the BB&T sunset ruN 5K and RRMC’s Kids’ Fun Run, as well as the Three Billy Goats Gruff puppet show at the LGAC’s black box theater starting at 5:30 p.m. Most downtown shops will stay open late.New open mic nightEach Tuesday, beginning Sept. 11, Cooper’s (122 E. Come share your talents with other musicians and a friendly crowd.Hall of Fame Induction ceremony ticketsThe NC Music Hall of Fame’s most exclusive event of the year, the 2012 Induction Ceremony, is Oct. 11, when the new inductees are honored and inducted.
The 2012 inductees are Tori Amos (alternative rock), Lou Donaldson (jazz saxophonist), Stonewall Jackson (country), Nantucket (hard rock), J.E. Mainer (bluegrass), Jodeci (R&B/new jack swing), Fred Foster (founder of Monument Records) and Shirley Reeves and Doris Jackson of the Shirelles.
The event will be held at Gibson Mill, Vintage Motor Club Events and Conference Center, 325 McGill Ave., Concord. Tickets are $80 for an evening that includes a cocktail reception beginning at 6 p.m., dinner, and entertainment by inductees. In keeping with this year’s theme of “Memories of Yesteryear,” visitors are invited to bring restored farm equipment and vehicles to display on the grounds. Local groups will be playing gospel and bluegrass music, and the backyard barbecue will be sponsored by the We Care Ministry of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to auction items and drinks available, there will be a showcase of local vocal talent. It is a free concert, but donations are welcome to support Rowan County’s 100+ year-old choir in their biggest fundraiser of the year.’I Hate Hamlet’CONCORD – Old Courthouse Theatre’s latest in the Living Room Reading Series is the comedy “I Hate Hamlet” by Paul Rudnick, on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.

Costumed docents at An Historic Evening at the Alexanders’ will give guests a peek into the lives of the Alexander family after the sun went down. Learn about evening meals, activities, and entertaining in colonial times. Sunset is anticipated around 7:30 p.m, and visitors are encouraged to bring their flashlights.
In May the museum temporarily suspended public operations in order to restructure its programs and plans. The historic grounds are still available Tuesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., with a cell phone tour of the site.
