SALISBURY – Rufty-Holmes Senior Center will host its second annual “Treat a local hero to lunch” this Friday.
The complimentary lunch, in observance of 9-11, is for local firefighters, law enforcement and emergency responders. The event will be from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in memory of 9-11 victims and in honor of the local community servants.
There were 60 “heroes” who attended last year’s lunch, said a statement from the center.
The center is inviting the public to help by sponsoring one or more of these heroes with $5 donations to help cover the cost of the luncheon provided by local caterer Debbie Suggs. People are also being sought to make and bring homemade desserts for the event. Desserts can be dropped off on Thursday or Friday morning before the event.
Monetary donations can be left at the center’s front desk or mailed to the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, 1120 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144. Any funds received in excess of expenses will be donated to the Rowan County United Way Campaign in honor of these local heroes.
