CONCORD – The suspect in a BB&T Bank robbery commited suicide as authorities closed in on him Friday evening, police said.
Concord police got a call at about 5:15 p.m. of a reported armed robbery at the BB&T at 9685 Harris Road. A lone gunman, who was a white male, entered the bank, produced a handgun and demanded money. He left on foot. Officers responded and tracked the suspect through a wooded area near the bank. They encountered the suspect, who tried to flee. He ran into the garage of a residence on Lolabridge St. NW and committed suicide there.
No shots were fired by officers and no one else was injured.
Police did not release the suspect’s identity.
