SALISBURY – A Salisbury man was convicted Wednesday in Rowan County Superior Court of possessing cocaine and being a habitual felon.
Arrington Javon Turner, 26, was charged with drug possession in April and again in May 2011.
Turner was convicted of felony cocaine possession; felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances; and felony possession with intent to sell/deliver/manufacture a schedule II controlled substance.
He also admitted his status of being a habitual felon and was sentenced to a minimum of just more than four and a half years and a maximum of six and a half in prison.
On April 5, 2011, detectives with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Salisbury Police Department and Spencer Police Department served a search warrant at a home on South Carolina Avenue in Spencer.
Officers found Turner in the home. He told the officers the only drugs in the house consisted of a marijuana cigarette and a set of digital scales. Officers searched and found cocaine and drug paraphernalia on the kitchen floor, said a statement from the District Attorney’s Office.
On May 26, 2011, officers with the Salisbury Police Department got a tip that Turner was driving to a location to sell cocaine.
Officers set up a perimeter and noticed a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle Turner was supposed to be driving located at a restaurant on Old Mocksville Road.
As officers approached, someone later identified as Turner threw something out of the vehicle’s window.
He was in the back seat with marijuana and a digital scale beside his foot. Officers also found cocaine outside the vehicle.
Turner told the officers, “he knew he should have just gotten high, but he was trying to make some of his money back,” a statement said.
Turner has previously been convicted of possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, all felonies.
