Area sports briefs: Labor Day golf pairings set

Flights and pairings have been announced for the Crowder-Dorsett Labor Day Four-Ball Golf Tournament.
Defending champions Richard Cobb and Joey Boley are the top seed in the Championship Flight. Qualifying medalists Sean Kramer and Andrew Morgan are seeded second. Kramer and Morgan shot 60.
Championship Flight first-round matches are on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., with second-round matches on Sunday.
There are 16 golfers in the Championship Flight and eight in the other flights.

Prep volleyball
South Rowan’s volleyball team defeated Cox Mill 19-25, 25-22, 25-15 and 25-12.
Emma Pope had 32 assists for the Raiders (6-0).
Lynsey Corriher and Lauren Register had nine kills each. Tiffany Brooks and Avery Locklear had six kills each.
Corriher had nine blocks, and Register and Pope had four apiece.
Brooks led in digs with 17. Pope and Caroline Hubbard had 11 digs each, and Mackenzie Reid had 10.
Prep soccer
Salisbury’s boys soccer team stayed unbeaten with a 4-1 win against 4A Lake Norman on Tuesday.
Miguel Urbina scored twice for the Hornets. Bobby Cardelle and Zack Sukkasem had a goal each.
Cardelle, Philip Simons and Lucas Capito had assists.
Capito had an exceptional game in the midfield for the Hornets (6-0).
Salisbury’s jayvees lost 2-1 to the Wildcats.
Both Salisbury teams will be in action against Northwest Cabarrus tonight.
Major leagues
Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) was the winning pitcher in the New York Mets’ 9-5 victory against Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Parnell (4-3) hurled two scoreless innings.
Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus) drove in his 74th and 75th runs in Seattle’s win over Minnesota on Tuesday.
Minor leagues
The Kannapolis Intimidators got homers from Courtney Hawkins and Joey DeMichele and
beat the Greenville Drive 9-1 on Tuesday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Jordan Jankowski (Catawba) picked up his fourth save for Greeneville on Tuesday.
Jayvee football
South Rowan’s jayvees will play Northwest Cabarrus at 6 p.m. at home on Thursday.
Prep tennis
Davie County’s girls tennis team beat West Rowan 9-0 on Tuesday.
Nadia Gregory, Allie Billings, Jennifer Webster, Ashley Dowell, Laura Kinda and Leah Gryder won in singles for the War Eagles.
Paige Myers-Emma Etter, Sydney Rowell-Molly Hartness and Emily Coulson-Courtney Cornatzer won in doubles.
Salisbury’s girls won 8-1 against East Rowan on Tuesday.
Lizzie Weaver won in a tiebreaker at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs (2-1).
Alexandra Drye, Anna Flynn, Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer, Madeline Hoskins and Kayla Honeycutt won in singles for Salisbury (5-1). Meyerhoeffer-Drye, Katelyn Storey-Hoskins and Flynn-Honeycutt won in doubles.
Corbin Hills golf
In the Corbin Hills Ladies League on Tuesday, Ruth Bowles won low gross. Faye Cline was second.
Margaret Meeks, Shirley Baucom and Bev Cobb tied for first in low net.
