Game notes: A.L. Brown’s running back tandem of Kalif Phillips and Ricky Sherrill, who was once South’s top ballcarrier before transferring, ran wild in Week 1.
The Wonders will look to get their passing game untracked this week. New QB Keenan Medley completed only a handful of passes in the opener, but one was a TD to Virginia Commitment Keeon Johnson.
Brown’s defense was the biggest story of the romp at Shelby. Linebacker Gabe Lucero had an interception and a fumble recovery.
The 66 points South allowed on opening night tied a dubious school record, and it had to qualify as one of the more disappointing openers in school history.
A lot of South’s stats came late, but Nathan Lambert put up 240 passing yards with aerials to Josh Medlin, Bryson Deaton and Tvadis Wesley. — M. London
