A number of elementary schools and all middle schools in the Rowan-Salisbury School System require students to wear uniforms.
Schools not on this list do not have a uniform policy, but students must wear clothes that meet guidelines in the Code of Conduct.
Elementary schools that require uniforms are Cleveland, Granite Quarry, Hanford Dole, Knollwood, Koontz, North Rowan, Overton and Shive.
Middle schools requiring uniforms are China Grove, Corriher-Lipe, Erwin, Knox, North Rowan, Southeast and West Rowan.
Uniforms items are available at retailers Walmart, Kmart, Sears, JCPenney, Target, Lee Clothing Warehouse, Thread Shed, Magic Mart, Belk and other outlets. Jeans are not allowed at schools with a uniform policy. Shoes must be closed toe, closed heel.
Sag-and-drag pants are not allowed, nor are sweatpants, windsuits or bedroom slippers. Nothing may be worn on the head.
General requirement at the schools:
Cleveland — solid navy blue, black or khaki bottom wear. Boys may wear slacks or shorts; girls may wear slacks, capris, shorts, jumpers, dresses, skirts and skorts. All “bottom wear” that has belt loops requires a belt. Shirts must have a collar. Closed toe and heel shoes only.
Granite Quarry — solid navy blue and tan khaki bottom wear. Boys may wear long pants or shorts; girls wear long pants, shorts, capri pants, jumpers, skirts and skorts. Uniform shirts may be solid white, red or navy blue, with collars. Flat, closed toed and heeled tennis shoes only, no shoes with wheels, no Mary Janes. No headwear of any type.
Hanford Dole — any solid color, collared (three- or four-buttons) knit polo shirt. Sweatshirts in solid colors allowed over polo shirts. No other jackets or sweaters worn in the building. Pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, capris, culottes or jumpers must be khaki, navy blue, black.
Knollwood — plain navy blue or khaki bottoms; classic red, navy blue or Oxford gray shirts, polo style. Sweatshirts, cardigans and sweaters must be classic red, navy blue or Oxford gray. Socks or leggings must be solid white, navy blue or red.
Koontz — shirts and blouses any solid color polo; pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, capris, culottes and jumpers, navy blue, khaki or black.
North Rowan — shirts and blouses, any solid color polo shirt or white or blue Oxford shirts. Slacks and shorts, skirts, skorts, capris, culottes or jumpers, khaki or navy blue. Sweaters and sweatshirts, any solid color crewneck, V-neck, cardigan or vest.
Overton — shirts and blouses, solid white, red or navy blue with collar; slacks and shorts, solid navy blue; sweaters and sweatshirts, solid red, navy blue or white crew neck, V-neck, cardigan or vest, worn with collared shirt; socks, solid navy blue or white; skirts, skorts, dresses, culottes, jumpers and capri pants, solid navy blue; no headwear.
Shive — slacks, shorts, capris, jumpers, skirts and skorts, khaki or navy blue. No corduroy, but cargo pants are allowed. Shirts, sweatshirts, cardigans and sweaters, classic red, navy blue or yellow, collared; socks and tights, solid white, red, blue or yellow.
China Grove Middle — shirts, polo or Oxford style; sixth grade, navy blue; seventh grade, hunter/forest green; eighth grade, red. Khaki shorts, pants, pleated or A-line skirts and jumpers. Corduroy pants allowed; on jean days, only blue jeans allowed; sweaters, sweatshirts and hoodies must match grade-level shirt color. Flip-flops allowed. Jackets must be grade-level color, gray or black.
Corriher-Lipe Middle — two or three button polo, sixth grade, green, Hunter or Kelly (not fluorescent); seventh grade, royal or navy blue (not Carolina blue); eighth, red or burgundy (not pink). Plain, solid khaki or black pants or shorts, skirts, jumpers or dresses. Cargo-style permitted if made of appropriate fabric. Sweatshirts must be crew neck, solid gray, black, white or grade level color. Boot heels no more than 2 inches.
Erwin — Shirts, sixth grade, light blue; seventh, yellow; eighth, navy blue; polo style; sweatshirts with Erwin Middle School logo or grade level color or plain navy or gray. No zippered, buttoned up or hooded sweatshirts. Khaki or navy slacks, shorts, skirts, jumpers or capris. No flip-flops or heels.
Knox — Polo shirts, red for sixth grade; royal blue for seventh; navy blue for eighth; khaki pants, shorts, skirts; sweaters or sweatshirts, grade level color; socks, solid color and matching; jackets, coats, winter wear in locker.
North Middle — polo shirts, red for sixth grade, royal blue for seventh, kelly green for eighth; sweatshirts, grade level color or NRMS hooded sweatshirts; solid khaki or navy blue pants, shorts, skirts or skorts, dresses or jumpers; boots with heels no higher than 2 inches allowed; no corduroy; no flip flops, water shoes, shower shoes or shoes with wheels; no sweaters.
Southeast — khaki or navy blue pants, shorts or skirts; two- or three-button polo shirts, burgundy for sixth grade, hunter green for seventh, navy blue for eighth grade; sweatshirts, vest or jackets must be grade level color; physical education uniforms, navy T-shirt and shorts, purchased from the school.
West Rowan Middle — solid khaki (light tan) or navy blue pants, shorts, capris, jumpers and skorts; no leggings; socks and tights solid navy, white, gray, black or tan. Shirts, red for sixth grade, navy blue for seventh, light blue for eighth; polo or Oxford style; sweatshirts, crew-neck only, no zipper or hoodies, grade level color or white, gray or navy, only outerwear allowed in classroom. No coats, jackets, purses or drawstring bags in class. Socks, solid navy, white, gray, black or tan.
