CLEVELAND — Knox Chapel Church UMC is hosting a fundraiser to help Tiffany with cancer treatments today, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 3520 Amity Road. There will be a cruise-in (bring your hot rods, classics, motorcycles) and live music (bring your instrument), fun for kids, and barbecue chicken plates with homemade desserts. Youth revival
Northside God of Prophecy youth revival concludes tonight, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. with evangelist Sylvia B. Staten and minister Ashtenne Parker.
Benefit at The Building
CLEVELAND — A benefit program for Mary Ann Dalton is tonight, Aug. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. at “The Building,” 119 Abington Lane.
The Rev. John W. Cade, pastor of Files Chapel Baptist Church of Lexington, will speak. There will also be gospel singing and praise dancing.
Open air worship
The congregation of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Salisbury will hold its annual open air worship and picnic fellowship Sunday, Aug. 19, beginning at 9:45 a.m. at Ellis Park Recreational Fields and Event Center, 3542 Old Mocksville Road.
Worship includes Sunday school, devotional praise, back to school ministry emphasis, and the message by the Rev. Dr. Nilous Avery II, pastor. A “spread-the-table” old-fashioned picnic will follow, along with games and other activities. Dress is casual, and guests are asked to bring a Bible, food, and beverages.

MOCKSVILLE — Homecoming Sunday is Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 3203 US Hwy. 601 South. Rev. Rodney Barker will speak and special music will be brought by Second Generation. A covered dish meal follows the service.
Moores Chapel
Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 500 Partee St., will celebrate family and friends day and homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 19. Dinner will be served in the fellowship hall at 12:30 p.m. The 3 p.m. service features guest speaker Rev. Dr. Sheldon Shipman, senior pastor of Greenville Memorial AME Zion Church of Charlotte.
Shipman has a Doctor of Ministry degree from Virginia Union University. He is the son of Mrs. Louise Shipman and the late Dr. F. George Shipman, former president of Livingstone College.
St. Peter’s Lutheran
St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, located in eastern Rowan County at 2570 St. Peter’s Church Road, will celebrate homecoming Sunday, Aug. 19, marking the 87th annual homecoming celebration and covered dish luncheon. The Rev. Eddie Pless will speak. He served as pastor at St. Peter’s from 1975-1984.
St. Peter’s has a rich history beginning with an old hickory log church believed to have been built around 1745. Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the luncheon to follow.
Lyerly Evangelical
ROCKWELL — Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, will celebrate 121 years of ministry at its homecoming service at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 19.
The church was organized in 1891 by Dr. J.M.L. Lyerly, who also founded Nazareth Children’s Home in 1906.
The Rev. Paul L. Pickler will preach. He retired in 2012 after 34 years in the ministry. A covered dish luncheon will follow the service.
Bethel UMC
MOCKSVILLE — Bethel United Methodist Church- Mocksville will celebrate homecoming Sunday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jack Luther, former pastor, as guest speaker. The Tuttle Family will provide special music from 10-10:45 and will sing during the worship service. Lunch will be served afterward.
Miller’s Chapel
Miller’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 920 Miller’s Chapel Road, will observe homecoming and revival beginning Sunday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. (speaker: Rev. H.R. Lawson II) and 3 p.m. (speaker: Dr. Myron Lawson of Unity in Christ Church). Lunch will be served in between, at 1:30 p.m.
Evangelist for the three day revival, Monday, Aug. 20-Wednesday, Aug. 22, will be Rev. Patrick Tate of Southern City AME Zion of East Spencer, at 7 p.m. nightly.
Luther’s Lutheran
The congregation of Luther’s Lutheran Church (est. 1828), located at 4955 Richfield Road, will celebrate their annual homecoming Sunday, Aug. 19. Interim pastor Tommy Beaver will lead worship at 11 a.m. Following the service, a covered dish meal will be served in the fellowship hall.
Seagroves at Enon
The Rev. Bobby Seagroves will preach at Enon Baptist Church on Sunday, Aug. 19 at the 11a.m. service. Seagroves is a former Associational Missionary for Rowan Southern Baptist Association.
Messiah Lutheran
Messiah Lutheran Church, 701 E. Lafayette St., will celebrate its 70th anniversary and homecoming Sunday, Aug. 19 during the 11 a.m. service with Rev. Gene Bruce of Faith Lutheran as guest speaker. A graduate of ERHS and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary Bruce serves as interim pastor at Amity Lutheran Church in Cleveland and is chaplain at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.
