MT. ULLA — On Sunday, Aug. 12 from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Sloan Park will be the site of Sunday morning praise and worship, hosted by Smith Chapel Apostolic Holiness Church. The event will be held rain or shine and will provide an afternoon of activities and entertainment. All are invited: dress casually, bring a lawn chair and a friend.

Lilly’s Chapel
Lilly’s Chapel Church of God will have their annual homecoming service on Sunday, Aug. 12.
Speaker at the 11 a.m. service is pastor Thomas H. Clawson, and at 3 p.m., the Rev. Samuel Washington, pastor of Solid Rock Church of God of Salisbury, will speak.
Organ Lutheran’s 89th
The congregation of Organ Lutheran Church (est. 1745), located at 1515 Organ Church Road in eastern Rowan County, will celebrate their annual homecoming celebration this Sunday, Aug. 12. This is their 89th annual homecoming and dinner on the grounds.
The Rev. Carlin Ours, pastor of Organ congregation for one year, will deliver the message. There will be special music with Jana Shive Thomas as the organist and Mark Brown as the Choir Director. Kaye Brown Hirst will serve as lector, and LeNea Goble, one of the congregational historians, will display visuals of congregational events past.
Steve Martin, local wood carver, has offered for raffle several bowls, five spoons, and two meditation crosses, hand carved from the wood of a dogwood tree on the Organ property. Proceeds will be used in the current restoration project on the steeple and bell tower of the old 1790’s church building.
Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the new church (built 1960), and will be followed by dinner on the grounds out in the covered shelter. There will be no early service. For more information, call 704-279-3096.
Ordination service
FAYETTEVILLE — New Life Covenant Fellowship Church will hold an ordination service on Sunday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m., for John and Lavern Bost, formerly of Salisbury, when both will be ordained as Elders at this service.
New Life Covenant Fellowship is located in Fayetteville. John is currently serving as senior elder, church administrator and an associate minister. Lavern is serving as music leader, elder and youth pastor. They are former members of Love Christian Center in East Spencer. The pastors of NLCF are Drs. Steve and Sandra McMillian. First Calvary
First Calvary Baptist Church will observe Youth Sunday on Aug. 12 with two services. The 11 a.m. worship service will be held at Livingstone College’s Walls Center Chapel, located in the 800 block of West Thomas St. The pastor, Rev. Leamon E. Brown, will deliver the message.
A 4 p.m. community-wide service will be held at First Calvary, 400 S. Long St., featuring Rev. Tim Bates as guest speaker. A Salisbury native, Rev. Bates is a well-known youth advocate and pastor of Cameron Presbyterian and Calvary Presbyterian Churches. Area churches are invited to bring youth groups to this fellowship. Antioch Missionary
GRANITE QUARRY — Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 602 S. Salisbury Ave., will celebrate homecoming and revival beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12. The Rev. The Edwards Family
The Edwards Family will be in concert Sunday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Hope Church, located at 7004 Old Concord Road. The concert is an outreach ministry of Mt. Hope Church, 2nd Street Church of God and Resurrection Life Church. The concert is free; a love offering will be received.
The Edwards Family has been playing, writing and singing bluegrqass goespel for more than 10 years, traveling throughout North Carolina and surrounding states. They have earned numerous awards including being named 2005 Junior Bluegrass Champions at the Fiddler’s Grove Festival. Their most recent CD project, “Innocent,” was recorded by Easter Enterprises in 2010. In Januarly 2012 they recorded for Bluegrass Road Television which is airing on RFD-TV.

First Pres blood drive
KANNAPOLIS — The First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, Aug. 13, from 2-6:30 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. The canteen will provide the fixings for build-your-own ice cream sundaes, along with the usual cold beverages and snacks.

Free gospel concert
STATESVILLE — The Iredell Choral Society will host a free gospel concert at Horizon Church, 316 Signal Hill Drive, on Friday, Aug. 17, from 7-8 p.m. (doors open 6 p.m.). This inspirational praise and worship concert features the 2012 ICS Gospel Choir and director, Joshua McCrary.

Jerusalem Baptist golf tournament
The scholarship committee of Jerusalem Baptist Chrucch will host their annual golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Corbin Hills Golf Course.
Tee-off tine is 9 a.m. Registration is $50 per person or $200 per team. Included in the fee are prizes, trophies and lunch. Golfers may register on site, or contact Ed Holmes or Thomas O’Kelly at 704-637-3447.
Proceeds will be used to award college scholarships to students who are members of Jerusalem.
St. Paul’s Episcopal
During the summer months, St. Paul’s celebrated Holy Eucharist beginning at 10:30 a.m., with no Bible Study. We will resume our normal 11 a.m. Holy Eucharist on Sunday, Sept. 2 preceded by Bible Study at 9:45 a.m. in the Sunday school building beginning on Sept. 9. The Rev Rick Williams, Vicar, is celebrant and instructor.
On Wednesday evenings, St. Paul’s is praying the Anglican Rosary beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by Compline to conclude the service.
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 14, St. Paul’s will offer a Zumba class from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays, with instructor Pat Jose; there will be a nominal fee charged for each session. Classes will be held in the parish hall.
St. Paul’s is located at 930 S. Main St. at the corner of Harrison. Parking is behind the church. After the service is a time of fellowship and refreshments.
New Faith conference
LEXINGTON — New Faith Full Gospel Fellowship Center presents their 2012 Women’s Conference Friday-Saturday, Aug. 17-18 on the theme “Women of Faith: Living in Divine Order.”
Friday’s speaker is First Lady Leah McNair of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Thomasville, and Psalmist Peggy Thomas of Word of Reconciliation Ministries, High Point. Friday night’s service begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
Saturday’s workshop sessions are from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., featuring First Lady Connie Transou, First Lady Kim Hargrave and executive pastor T. Shay Geter.
