ASHEBORO (AP) — A Stanly County man left his entire estate worth more than $3 million to the North Carolina Zoological Society.
The nonprofit said Tuesday the gift from the late Dr. Addison Mangum of Albermarle represents the largest single donation in its 44-year history. The nonprofit supports the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro.
Mangum put no restrictions in his will on how the nonprofit can use the money. The retired radiologist and Air Force veteran died in April at age 78.
The nonprofit’s interim executive director, Cheryl Turner, says the zoo is working with the estate’s executor on how to permanently recognize Mangum’s gift.
