SALISBURY — Rep. Harry Warren will host a town hall meeting this Friday for educators, parents and the general public to talk to State House leaders about changes to the state’s education system.
The event is the latest in a series of monthly town hall meetings with Warren’s 77th district constituents. It will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the J. Newton Cohen Commissioners Room at the Rowan County Administration Building, located at 130 W. Innes St.
This month’s meeting will focus on education reforms and other laws that were enacted during the 2011-12 legislative session of the N.C. General Assembly. House leaders will be available to answer questions and discuss comments or concerns.
Rep. Bryan Holloway, chairman of the N.C. House Education Committee, will be the guest speaker. Rep. Paul Stam, House Majority Leader, and several other state legislators also will attend.
“People can ask questions directly of the legislators and share what their concerns are, and what their thoughts and feelings are,” Warren said. “At the same time, I wanted the legislators to hear directly from my constituents what their feelings and thoughts are.”
After receiving many emails from people in the education community, Warren said he realized that they haven’t had much of a chance to really “digest” and understand all the changes that have been made.
“I wanted to provide our teachers and the education community here in Rowan County the opportunity to have that cleared up for them,” Warren said, “and answer their questions prior to them starting school.”
He said his town hall meetings are typically open forums where people can ask about anything. This one will have a specific focus, but other topics still can be discussed.
“It’s open to the general public, not just specifically to the education community,” Warren said. “It’s still an open forum. We’re just going to focus on education, and if somebody does have a question about some other concern, I’ll be glad to answer that.”
