SALISBURY — Police arrested a Salisbury man accused of damaging several patrol cars during a vehicle chase through the city Tuesday afternoon.
Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said officers tried to stop Samuel Alford Poole Jr., 38, over a stop sign violation near the intersection of Long Street and Henderson Street about 2 p.m.
But Poole had no intention of stopping, police said.
Officers chased Poole from Innes Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, and then to Jake Alexander Boulevard.
Poole then took Klumac back to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and then over collided with a parked car and at least two patrol cars at the Salisbury Post office, officers said.
Police said Poole’s red Buick LaCrosse had a fictitious tag and Poole had outstanding warrants, including a probation violation.
Poole refused to stop and drove down Long Ferry Road toward High Rock Lake.
At the Interstate 85 bridge, North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers took over the chase, but Poole jumped out of his vehicle near Rendleman Road and fled on foot.
Officers chased Poole down a dock and arrested the 38-year-old as he was climbing down a ladder on the dock into the water.
He was charged with probation violation, failing to appear in court, failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, driving while license revoked, two counts of hit and run and four counts of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
Lingle said Poole also faces numerous traffic violations.
