CHINA GROVE — Deputies arrested a 25-year-old man this morning after his father told authorities that fraudulent credit cards had been set up in his name.
Authorities arrested Daniel Sung Frye about 5 a.m. and charged him with 32 counts of felony identity theft.
He remained in jail Monday morning under a $75,000 bond.
According to a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report, Frye, of Old Beatty Ford Road, spent most of April and part of May on a cross-country spending spree, totaling about $6,500.
Deputies said at least two credit cards were set up for Edward Frye, Daniel’s father.
Daniel Frye started by renting a car at Hertz Rent-A-Car in Concord on April 3, according to an arrest report.
The younger Frye appears to have driven to Louisiana, records show, and then to Illinois.
Investigator Tracy Misenheimer found Frye then spent time in West Virginia, New Hampshire and Boston, the report said. Several days later credit-card charges started coming in from Miami.
Most of the charges were registered at gas stations.
Authorities were notified when Edward Frye contacted the Sheriff’s Office about a potential fraud on May 7.
Arrest warrants were issued on Saturday.
