CORTLAND, N.Y. — A look at Tim Tebow’s day at New York Jets training camp:
TEBOW TIME: Tebow worked exclusively with the second-team offense Friday, but there were no wildcat plays — unlike Thursday when the Jets provided a small glimpse into how the versatile backup quarterback might be used.
HOW’D HE DO: After having his best day of training camp, Tebow was so-so along with the rest of the offense. He was 3 for 6 in 11-on-11 drills, and even recovered from tripping over his own feet and falling on his rear to complete a short pass to Josh Baker. He even shouted in frustration after misfiring on a pass.
TEBOWMANIA: The Jets’ practice was closed to the public Friday and ESPN left town after broadcasting live all week and dissecting Tebow’s every move, making for a strangely quiet three hours on the field. The crowds will be back Saturday night, when New York holds its green-and-white practice with at least 6,500 expected to fill Cortland Stadium.
TALKING TEBOW: “I’ll say this: I respect President Obama and I respect the fact that this is his opinion.” — Jets coach Rex Ryan refusing to take the bait when asked when he thought of the president saying fans should be “pretty nervous” about a quarterback controversy with Tebow and Mark Sanchez on the same team.
