Local Christian music venue The Inn will once again play host to the Charlotte Music Awards Christian Band Showcase, tomorrow night, Friday, Aug. 3.
Competing bands include Seventh Vessel, All of a Kind, Broken Yesterday, Damascus Road, Jerry’s Bones and Shield of Salvation.
There will be raffles of gift cards, CDs, t-shirts and other items donated by bands and local businesses.
The winner of Friday night’s showcase will play at The Fillmore in Charlotte in December. This red carpet affair brings all the winners of all the showcases together to perform and receive their awards.
Judges for the local event Friday are David Bumgarner (deejay at WBFJ-FM Winston-Salem); Marc Hoffman, performer/ owner of Salisbury School of Music; Laura Millspaugh, singer/song writer; David Bean, performer and NOTW apparel distributor; Gil Bush, guitarist/song writer; and April Webber Coble, lead singer for last year’s winner, Lifegiver. ‘Fox on the Fairway’
CONCORD — Old Courthouse Theatre presents “The Fox on the Fairway” beginning tonight, Aug. 2 and running through Aug. 19.
A tribute from Ken Ludwig (Lend Me A Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo) to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s, The Fox On the Fairway takes audiences on a hilarious romp of mistaken identities, slamming doors and other romantic shenanigans.

Symphony date changes
The Salisbury Symphony’s 2012-2013 season schedule has experienced one change: the Family Concert, scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2013, has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 14, to accommodate the RSSS school calendar. The time of 4 p.m. and the site (Varick Auditorium, Livingstone College campus) remain the same.
The All-County Fifth Grade Honors Chorus shares the stage with the Symphony Orchestra the Symphony’s After-School Strings program students.
Though the Symphony’s season brochure has already been printed with the earlier date, season tickets will show the correct date.

DeLorean time machine
GREENSBORO — “Back to the Future” fans can see a replica of the DeLorean Time Machine from the movie on Aug. 3 in Greensboro.
The vehicle – a street-legal replica – will be at the Boho salon (506-A S. Elm St.) to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Guests are invited to take photos with the iconic DeLorean or get a haircut and style during the fundraising cut-a-thon. The event starts at 4 p.m.

EXPO 2012 show
The Carolina Artists EXPO 2012, a non-juried competition with cash prizes and ribbon awards, will be held Aug. 8-10 at the Civic Center, 315 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. S. The artists’ reception is Thursday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m.
BTS collection begins
EAST SPENCER — The third annual back-to-school clothing and food giveaway, sponsored by Workers of the Vineyard, will be held Aug. 18.
From now until the event, held at Royal Giants Park in East Spencer, the Workers wil be collecting items for the giveaway. The Town of East Spencer Municipal Building is the drop-off site for donations.
Sponsors to date are Chick-Fil-A, Trinity Wesleyan, Fairview Heights Baptist, Southern City AME Zion, Mt. Zion Baptist, Mt. Gilead Church of Christ, Fishermen of Men from Fairview Heights Baptist and Hairston Funeral Home.
Details on the event, which will include a skills basketball camp and a 3 on 3 tournament, will be announced.
Lexington events
LEXINGTON — Downtown Lexington’s Friday night Back to School Stroll is Friday, Aug. 3. There will be classic cars on display, art activities, fun for the kids and live music in the Conrad & Hinkle square by Loose Cannons, an Armed Forces band who is stationed at Fort Bragg and performs rock music.
On Saturday, the Lexington Farmers Market celebrates Melon Mania Day with a watermelon eating contest. The children’s competition (12 and under) starts at 10 a.m. Participants need to sign up before 9:45 a.m. The adult competition (ages 13 and up) starts at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded.
Saturday market hours are 8 a.m.-noon. The market is located inside the Historic Rail and Freight Depot, 129 S. Railroad St., with free parking available.
