The community summer celebration at Cool Spring United Methodist Church is today, July 28, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Activities include a bounce house, water slip and slide, face painting, bubble blowing, volleyball, free hot dogs, ice cream and more. The church is on Highway 64 East near Cool Spring Elementary School.
Scholarship fundraiser
The George B. Stowe/ GMBC Scholarship Committee’s fish fry/hot dog fundraiser runs today until 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 719 S. Caldwell St.
Youth Summit today
CHARLOTTE — The Children & Youth Summit designed for youth ages 11-18 and those who work with them begins today, July 28, at 10 a.m. at Plaza UMC, 5600 The Plaza, Charlotte.
The workshops are free; lunch is $5. The summit is sponsored by Plaza UMC and Greenville AME Zion Churches, the Children’s Initiative of the Pan-Methodist Commission, Piedmont Area and the Christian Educators Fellowship, Hood Seminary Chapter.

Youth Round-up
Today from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., te Salisbury Rowan Missionary Union is sponsoring a Youth Round-up at First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St. There will be activities, workships and food for the children. The theme is “Exercise Your Mind.”
Calvary Fundamental
LANDIS — Calvary Fundamental Baptist Church will be going to Magnolia Gardens today, July 28 at 2 p.m. to sing to the residents. The singing will be followed by a trip to the Family Classic Restaurant, Denton.

Outreach revival
The missionary revival/conference at Outreach Christian Tabernacle. 722 W. Horah St., concludes today with a workshop from 3-6 p.m. and a service at 7:30 p.m.
Green church initiative
The First United Church of Christ’s Fifth Sunday Fellowship Event on Sunday, July 29, begins at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall with refreshments, and takes the place of regular Sunday school classes.
With a focus on recycling and the “green church” initiative, Diane Goodnight, event leader, invites attendees to wear something re-made or updated to look new, or perhaps something vintage bought at a thrift store or yard sale. Remember, “old” is “in” this Sunday. First UCC, 207 W. Horah St.
Ten@10 at JCPC
Guest speaker at John Calvin Presbyterian Church’s Ten@10 worship service on July 29 is D.J. Whitfield, on the Rowan Hospice House scheduled to open this fall. Service is at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
Liberty United concert
GOLD HILL — The Gospel Voices of Union Grove will be at Liberty United Methodist Church, on Sunday, July 29 at 11 a.m. The church is located at the intersection of Liberty Road and Stokes Ferry Road.
Teens With A Mission
At the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, July 29 in Lewis Hall at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury, “Teens With A Mission (TWAM)” will present a report on their recent trip to Costa Rica.
The day begins at 9 a.m. in the sanctuary with a service of wholeness. Childcare is available at 8:45 a.m.
Bethel Evangelical

Trinity anniversary
Trinity Presbyterian Church will celebrate its 145th anniversary on Sunday, July 29 at a 3 p.m. service, with guest speaker the Rev. Dr. Diane Givens Moffett, senior pastor of St. James Presbyterian Church in Greensboro.
Moffett holds a Master of Divinity and a Doctorate of Ministry. In addition, she is a singer and poet and author of the book “Beyond Greens and Cornbread: Reflections of African American Christian Identity.”
Deacons Alliance
GRANITE QUARRY — The Rowan & Davie County Deacons Alliance Inc. will host a Gospel Singing Extravaganza, Sunday, July 29 at 4 p.m., to be held at Antioch Baptist Church, where Ricky Johnson is pastor.

Emmanuel singing
Fifth Sunday Night Singing at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2300 Bringle Ferry Road, begins at 6 p.m., and features The Testamonians (40 years of Southern Gospel Music). Bobby Biles, Melissa Jackson and Matt Jackson will be singing gospel songs. A love offering will be taken for the group.

Hot dog fundraiser

Church Women United
The Human Rights Celebration, sponsored by the Salisbury-Rowan Unit of Church Women United in NC, will be held on Friday, Aug. 3, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 375 Lumen Christi Lane.
The program will include recognition by the national CWU of two local persons. There will be refreshments afterward.
Catherine Rivens is Human Rights Celebration chair, Montrella Davis is Sacred Heart’s representative and Brenda Venning is SRCWU president. Attendees are asked to gather school supplies and bring them to the celebration. Vicki Slusser of Communities in Schools will receive these.
Kingdom Conference
SPENCER — Bishop Derek Kelly and Kingdom Impact Ministries will host its annual Kingdom Conference 2012 on Aug. 3-4 at Dorsett Chapel, 1280 Hollywood Drive.
The keynote speaker for Friday, Aug. 3 is Bishop Orlando Wilson from Baltimore, Md., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s events will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and consist of four teaching sessions. Crown In Glory
Crown In Glory Lutheran Church will celebrate its 41st anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 5 at 3:30 p.m. The theme for the celebration is “Moving By Faith.” The Rev. Dr. John Arthur Nunes, president and CEO of Lutheran World Relief, is the speaker. Lutheran World Relief is a $42 million global organization. Dr. Nunes leads staff in 17 countries in working to end poverty, injustice and human suffering worldwide.
Dr. Nunes has been a professor of theology at Concordia University Chicago, an urban pastor, a community organizer and a management consultant. He holds an M.Div and Ph.D.
Back-to-school collection begins
EAST SPENCER — The third annual back-to-school clothing and food giveaway, sponsored by Workers of the Vineyard, will be held Aug. 18.
From now until the event, which will be held at Royal Giants Park in East Spencer, the Workers wil be collecting items for the giveaway. The Town of East Spencer Municipal Building is the drop-off site for donations. Sponsors to date are Chick-Fil-A, Trinity Wesleyan, Fairview Heights Baptist, Southern City AME Zion, Mt. Zion Baptist, Mt. Gilead Church of Christ, Fishermen of Men from Fairview Heights Baptist and Hairston Funeral Home.
Details on the event, which will include a skills basketball camp and a 3 on 3 tournament, will be announced.
CCM food drive
CONCORD – Pantries are low but demand continues to soar this summer as unemployment rates in Cabarrus and Rowan counties remain above 8 percent.
Cooperative Christian Ministry is hosting their first Summer Food Drive for non-perishable food items, including canned and boxed goods. Cooperative Christian Ministry serves Cabarrus and southern Rowan counties.
