KANNAPOLIS — As part of their summer entertainment series, downtown Kannapolis will host a Friday-Saturday Beach Music Festival on July 27 and 28, at Village Park Amphitheater, 700 W. C St.
The Tams kick off the event on Friday Night at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s music begins at 5 p.m. with The Holiday Band, followed by Atlantic Groove at 7 p.m., and winding up with the music of Jim Quick & Coastline at 8:30 p.m.

Sy Arden show, July 28
A night of art, music and fun by musician and visual artist Sy Arden. Original ink and cut paper artwork, with music. Doors open at 8 p.m., $5 cover; wear black if possible. Pick up a raffle card at your favorite local restaurant, gallery or coffee house for a chance to win a prize.

Wrestle Fest!
Bell time is at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 28 for the family friendly pro wrestling event, Wrestle Fest. It is comedy-based and appropriate for children, with most of the wrestlers coming from the Salisbury.

Neil Simon’s ‘Rumors’
DAVIDSON — Confusion, miscommunication and chaos reign in Neil Simon’s “Rumors,” being performed by the Davidson Community Players beginning tonight, at the Duke Family Performance Hall on the campus of Davidson College.
Performance dates are July 26, 27, 28, Aug. 2, 3, and 4 at 8 p.m. and July 29 and Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. With mature language, this play is for ages 12 and up.

Titanic author speaks
On Monday, July 30 at 7 p.m. at the headquarters library’s Stanback Auditorium, Julie Williams brings the story of her great-uncle, Albert Caldwell, who survived the Titanic, along with his wife and baby. Williams tells their story in her book, “A Rare Titanic Family.” Refreshments and the chance to meet the author will follow the program.
Vampirologist visits
CONCORD — The Concord Library will host a visit with Vampirologist Theresa Bane on Tuesday, July 31, at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium. She will talk about the myths and history of vampires and other-worldly creatures. This program is open for ages 11-adult. ‘Fox on the Fairway’
CONCORD — Old Courthouse Theatre presents a tribute from Ken Ludwig (“Lend Me A Tenor,” “Moon Over Buffalo”) to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s. “The Fox On the Fairway” takes audiences on a hilarious romp filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top shenanigans.
Performance dates are Aug. 2, 3, 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 8 p.m., and Aug. 5, 12 and 19 at 2:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $15.

RAC Grassroots Grants
The Rowan Arts Council Grassroots Grants application deadline is Tuesday, July 31. Projects must occur between July 1, 2012 and May 15, 2013.

‘Faces of Abundant Living’
Salisbury’s Abundant Living provides models for portraits for 2012 “Faces of Abundant Living” portrait exhibit. Portraits may be started at any time; work in the medium of your choice. Deadline Aug. 1. Once completed, portraits will be on exhibit at Waterworks Visual Arts Center beginning Aug. 24; an opening reception Sept. 20. Carolina Artists EXPO 2012

Dance workshop
The Event Center hosts the Awaken Dance Workshop on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., which will include spiritual choreography, dance techniques (ballet, jazz, spontaneous praise), group dance and Q & A. Special guest will be Mickye Castillo, dance leader from The Potter’s House (TD Jakes). Registration is open to the public and is $20 until July 27, and $30 after. Lunch is included.

Music, drama camp
MOORESVILLE — “Rocks, Reeds, Strings & Things” is the name of the music and drama summer camp hosted by Prospect Presbyterian Aug. 6-10, with a Friday night performance.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, for children having completed grades 1-5, participants will look at musical instruments through the Bible and experience contemporary versions of those instruments through participating guest artists.
