SALISBURY — Gail Daniel Driver has opened a new shop called Madison’s Flower & Gift Shop on Avalon Drive beside Mr. Gatti’s and Liberty Tax.
The shop features novelties for men and women and customized gift baskets.
“It’s a shop where everyone can come in and find something they like,” Driver said.
Specialties include baby gifts, wall wreaths, mail boxes for race and sports fans and the Flower Buddy Basket. The shop will create a gift basket for any occasion — birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and more — using only silk flower.
Driver is originally from Davie County and moved to Salisbury 13 years ago. She offers some consignment items to help out fellow entrepreneurs.
Today, everyone who comes in the shop will receive a free cupcake or cookie.
Bank promotes Spry to assistant VP
WINSTON-SALEM — Southern Community Bank and Trust announced today that it has promoted Sharon Spry to assistant vice president.
Spry is a commercial banking support manager II. She joined Southern Community in 2006. Spry previously worked 15 years in commercial banking for two of the largest banks in the country.
A native of Salisbury, Spry holds a bachelor’s degree from Catawba College in Salisbury. Married to Michael Spry, she is the former Ms. Sharon Kimmer of Salisbury.
Gentiva Home Health holding food drive
Staff members from the Gentiva Home Health offices will be blanketing Cabarrus and Rowan counties throughout August, distributing food collection bags and gathering donations for the Cooperative Christian Ministry and Rowan Helping Ministries food banks as part of the company’s 8th Annual Food Drive.
As part of the Gentiva Health Services family of home health and hospice providers, employees at the Gentiva Home Health Kannapolis/Concord/Salisbury offices and their counterparts around the country are placing the food collection bags at various health care facilities in their respective communities and will collect their “harvest” during August.
They are focused on beating last year’s national record, when the company’s seventh annual food drive yielded more than 382,702 pounds of goods for donation to charitable organizations across the country.
“As active members of the community, we know that food banks, pantries and other charitable organizations face rising demand and a chronic lack of necessary supplies due to the economy and global food shortages,” said Susan Wear, Account Executive. “We also know that proper nutrition is important for the well-being of the people that we serve. In these especially hard economic times, more people are at risk for poor nutrition and hunger. We look forward to working with many area health organizations, and we encourage local healthcare providers to contact us for more information on how they and their employees can participate in this community effort.”
Housing authority official to speak
Rowan Real Estate Investors and Associates will meet on Tuesday, July 24. Speaker will be Sarah Potts, executive director of the Rowan County Housing Authority. She will be providing information regarding the Section 8 program in Rowan County.
The group meets at China Buffet (on Arlington Street behind O’Charleys near Interstate 85 exit 76) in Salisbury at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The meeting is open to anyone who would like to attend.
