After an extended outage during maintenance on the Fibrant network Thursday, the engineers will suspend their work tonight and Friday, starting back Monday, midnight-6 a.m.
Some users had no service till mid-morning, while others were able to connect to the network.
“System engineers have pinned down the problem and stabilized the network,” said Elaney Hasselmann, public information and communications manager, city of Salisbury.
“We are fairly confident the network is stable, and we will resume maintenance on Monday,” she said. “Part of the upgrading process is to extend reliability and provide that redundant link.”
Hasselmann said Fibrant has had a higher call volume today, but that most callers already knew about the planned upgrades and were understanding.
According to a press release from the city, Fibrant network upgrades began on Monday; early this morning, crews discovered additional needs.
Fibrant staff worked throughout the morning to restore service and to notify customers impacted by the extension of the maintenance upgrade. “As an organization, we apologize for any inconvenience experienced by our subscribers,” the press release says.
Salisbury’s Fibrant network requires certain upgrades to maintain the level of service it provides. This round of upgrades includes adding enhanced equipment and a second internet circuit for redundancy. The press release states, “These upgrades will allow Fibrant to continue to seek a 99.999% reliability rating and provide superior service to our valuable customers.
“This maintenance, which concludes on Friday, Aug. 3, has been planned over the last several months and will be conducted in the most efficient way possible as to limit the amount of interrupted service.”
Fibrant has more than 2,000 customers and provides internet, television and phone services for residents and businesses within the Salisbury city limits.
