Want a cool slice of watermelon to help on Farmers Day, Saturday? Go by the Farmers Market on the grounds of the China Grove Roller Mill, eat watermelon and try your luck at the “Watermelon Seed Spitting Challenge.”
Alan Goodman, market manager, will have the challenge display ready for children as well as adults to try their seed spitting skills.
Also, the “Best Tomato Contest” will be held during the annual festival. The contest prize is $100 for the adult winner and $100 for the youth winner (17 years and under). The tomato contest is sponsored by L.L. Goodnight and Sons of China Grove.
The tomatoes will be judged on appearance and taste. Participants must submit five tomatoes for judging and they must have been grown in Rowan County.
Entries should be given to Goodman, at the Farmers Market before 2 p.m. on Farmers Day.
The Farmers Market is open each Friday from 4-7 p.m. The vendors will have locally grown products for sale including fruits, vegetables, eggs, honey, bread, pastries and plants and will open on Farmers Day. Any individual from Rowan County wishing to sell locally grown products on Farmers Day will be given a free space.
