Qualifying for the 34th Horace Billings Rowan County Amateur Championship concluded on Sunday afternoon. The first round matches will be held Friday. Mark Deese was Medalist with a 69.

Local golf
Logan Shuping shot 75 today to win the 14-15 age division in a National Junior Golf Tour event at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte. This is his second win this summer on the NJGT tour and fourth tournament win overall.
• Lee Frick shot a 144 over two rounds to win the Country Club of Salisbury’s Championship Division.
Winners from the regular division included Tim Young (149, gross) and Stan Jordan (139, net). Senior division crows went to John Kyger (155, gross) and Bruce Stolsworth (139, net). Grey Medinger (147, gross) and Stan Osteen (138, net) were super senior division winners.
In the women’s “A” division Veronica Hobbs (185, gross) and Kathy Carlton (147, net) won while Cindy Carmazzi (201, gross) and Susan Wydner (157, net) won the “B” division.
John Murphy was the junior division champ with a 173. Simon Post shot 195 to win the under-12.
Soccer tryouts
That East Rowan soccer will have workouts on Thursday, July 19, Friday, July 20, Monday July 23, Thursday, July 26, and Friday, July 27. The workouts are from 8 to 10 a.m.
