SALISBURY — A tractor-trailer truck struck the median of I-85 early Tuesday evening, sending its rear tandem axle into traffic.
No one was hurt in the wreck, which happened just before 6 p.m. on the northbound side of the interstate, just past the Innes Street exit.
The tandem axle came to rest across the left two lanes, but no vehicles appeared to have struck it. Officers closed those two lanes while they investigated and cleared the scene.
According to the Highway Patrol, the truck driver said he veered off the roadway because of a distraction. The front left corner of the truck hit the median, and the vehicle continued to slide against it for several hundred feet before coming to a stop.
No charges were filed as of Tuesday evening.
