SALISBURY— For the second time in two years, someone who bought a Carolina Cash 5 ticket in at Village Grocery and Garden Shop hit a six-figure jackpot.
The ticket was sold Saturday at the convenience store on U.S. 601 in Salisbury, and its winnings total $303,256.
Saturday’s winner, who hasn’t yet come forward, has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize money. The winning numbers were 4-18-22-29-38.
Manager Anthony McDaniel said he was out on vacation when the jackpot ticket was sold, and he came back Monday to hear the news. He doesn’t know who bought it.
“It’s really good to see that winning tickets are being bought here,” McDaniel said. “It should help with the overall business of the store. It’s great.”
He said he noticed that business picked up the last time the store had a big winner. In March 2011, Salisbury sales representative Lloyd Pullen won $366,158 with a Quick Pick ticket he bought at Village Grocery.
On Monday, Martha Shuping said she lives near the store and shops there a lot, but “I haven’t bought a lottery ticket in a long time.”
Would the news of a big winner change that?
“It might,” she said. “It just might.”
Shopper Gloria Rabon, who lives just down the road from Village Grocery, said she buys three or four lottery tickets a month, and she might get a few extra now.
“Wish that would’ve been me,” Rabon said. “I’ve been missing out.”
Grady Bradley bought some lottery tickets Monday, but he said he didn’t know about the Cash 5 winner until that afternoon.
“I won $3 on Friday, but I wish I won the big one,” he said. “It’s about time for me to win big, one of these days.”
