Rescuers search for possible drowning victim in Davie

MOCKSVILLE — A dive team from Rowan Rescue Squad was assisting today in a search for a possible drowning victim at the Lake Myers Family Campground, which is roughly 6 miles west of here off U.S. 64.
Detective K.M. Shuping of the Davie County Sheriff’s Office said, “All we can say at this point in time is there is an active search.”
He said divers from the Davie County and Rowan rescue squads are searching for an adult male. The original call that the man was missing from the campground came in about 2:40 a.m. today.
Shuping stressed that authorities were not 100 percent sure the man was in the lake.
Eddie Cress, assistant chief for the Rowan Rescue Squad, said a dive team and sonar equipment from his squad have been on the site since about 11 a.m..
Rowan received a call for assistance from the Davie County Rescue Squad.
Cress said a cadaver dog also has been employed in the search.
Lake Myers Family Campground, about 24 miles from Salisbury, is located west of Interstate 40 near the intersection of U.S. 64 West and Fred Lanier Road.
